The Pee Wee Cougars had their home tournament last weekend. At the rink was a good place to be with the weather being so cold outside. Teams from Kipling, Lampman, Estevan, and Stoughton attended. Carlyle's first game was against the Lampman Imperials. Jacob Chalus started the scoring with a goal 2 minutes into the game. Lampman answered with 2 goals of their own. But Carlyle's Jake Macleod blocked a Lampman shot and picked up the puck for a breakaway goal to tie the game. Lampman scored 2 more times to make the score at the end of the period Carlyle 2, Lampman 4.

But the second period was dominated by Carlyle. Nothing got past Carlyle's goalie Kruz Wilson in the second period and at 9:10 Mac Niven was in the perfect position to pick up Dalton Laustel's rebound for a score. Ashton Magatiaux did a superb job playing defence in this tournament and frustrated opposition forwards in this period and all day. Then with 2 minutes left in the second period Sam Matthewson fed Chalus who put in the tying goal.

Early in the third, Chalus passed back to defenseman Clayton Hill who scored with a slapshot from the point to put Carlyle ahead. This period also saw some pretty fancy moves by Jett Big Eagle who on 2 occasions outmanoeuvred both of Lampman's defensemen to get shots on net. It seemed like Carlyle would have the win, but with only 2 minutes left in the game, Lampman scored again. Still, the Cougars didn't let up and with only one minute left, Jake Macleod found Riley McCrimmon in front of the net. MacCrimmon slammed home the winning goal to put Carlyle into the A side final game.

The A Side Final saw Carlyle against the Kipling Royals. Carlyle's Jacob Chalus scored first, but Kipling came back and by halfway through the second period had 5 of their own. Carlyle's offense continued to work hard with strong play from forwards Jory Dyck and Tommy Cappo. Then at the end of the second period, Jake Macleod caught a pass from Sam Matthewson and went in to score. Again in the third, Kirk Zacharias passed up to Jake Macleod who put it in Kipling's net. But it wasn't enough, and Kipling ended up winning 8 to 3. So, the Cougars won the A Side Consolation trophy. Way to go Coach Todd, Gilles, and Clayton and congratulations Pee Wee Cougars! It was a great day of hockey that included an amazing raffle table and even a shootout in the B Side Final.
