ESTEVAN - One of the top players in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) has committed to play for his hometown junior hockey team for next season.

The Estevan Bruins announced Thursday that forward Carter Onrait will be with the Black and Gold for the 2024-25 campaign. Onrait is in his third season with the Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears and is their team captain.

"I am very excited for this opportunity to be playing for my hometown and the Bruins' organization," Onrait said in a news release. "I am looking forward to the upcoming season here in Estevan. I have grown up watching the Bruins my whole life and to finally get the chance to play for them is incredible. It will be awesome to play here at home with all the support of my friends and family, and the city of Estevan."

Onrait is currently tied for fifth in goals in the SMAAAHL with 21 and tied for sixth in points with 41. He has played all of his minor hockey in Estevan.

"We're excited to add Carter to our team next year. He has had a very productive season on the offensive side of the puck," said Bruins' head coach and general manager Jason Tatarnic. "We look forward to seeing him develop here next year. I know our program means something to him as a hometown kid."
