Curlers compete in Masters Bonspiel

The annual Masters Curling Bonspiel got the New Year off to a start at the curling rink in Assiniboia on January 6 to 8.

The annual Masters Curling Bonspiel got the New Year off to a start at the curling rink in Assiniboia on January 6 to 8.
There were six teams from Assiniboia, two from Moose Jaw, two from Lafleche, one from Estevan and one from Mossbank participating.
Round robin play on January 7 whittled down the teams, with ten teams in the playoffs on January 8. There were both A Side and B Side winners.
Team Ward and Team Thiele advanced from the playoffs to the A Side semi-finals. Team Thiele won 10-2 in this game. Team Phair and team Howe emerged winners from the playoff round. Team Phair shut out the Howe team 9-0 in a high-scoring game. Team Guidos and Team Ciocia met in an A Side semi-final. Team Guidos finished with a commanding 16-2 win.
In the B Side finals, Team Thorburn shut out Team Batty 9-0. Team Sinclair defeated Team Hartness 9-3.
Upcoming curling action at the Assiniboia Curling Rink features the Provincial Qualifier South, which started on January 19 and will run until Sunday, January 22. The winners from this event go on to compete in the Men’s Provincial Curling Championship in Tisdale from February 1 to 5.
The Coronach Curling Club is hosting a Farmers and Friends Bonspiel on January 27 to 29, offering a $1,000 first prize.
The Bengough Curling Club has an Open Bonspiel from February 17-19. There is a 24 team limit for the open bonspiel. The Bengough Curling Club’s Ladies Annual Bonspiel runs February 10 to 12.
