After completing his eighth event in the Professional Golf Association (PGA), Graham DeLaet said his "body is holding up well." The former Weyburn golfer is back on the Tour after taking a major medical extension during his 2011 season.
After completing his eighth event in the Professional Golf Association (PGA), Graham DeLaet said his "body is holding up well." The former Weyburn golfer is back on the Tour after taking a major medical extension during his 2011 season.
During those eight tournaments, DeLaet was cut three times, the most recent at the Transitions Championship.
DeLaet had a six-over-par round one at the Transitions, where he shot three bogeys in the back nine, and two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in the front nine to finish at 77. Then during round two, DeLaet shot two bogeys and a birdie in the front nine, and three birdies and a bogey in the back nine to finish at 69, two-under-par.
With a total of four-over-par, DeLaet was cut from the event.
On a personal level, DeLaet said "Pebble has probably been my favourite course of the year thus far. I'm looking forward to Houston next week where I had a good tourney my rookie season."
DeLaet is looking forward to returning to Weyburn this summer for his second charity golf fundraiser for the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. "The first year of our fundraising tournament was a huge success."
"I was very pleased with the support from the community," said DeLaet. "I'm hoping to build on last years' success. I hope to have a bunch of memorabilia from other pros this year to auction off. I am also looking forward to hitting tee shots this year. Hopefully the wind will be down a bit."
Playing on the PGA Tour is a great way for DeLaet to make connections with other players. "I have had some great pairings thus far. I have played with Els, Fowler, Rose, Goosen and Ishikawa to name a few."
Twitter and a new website has also allowed DeLaet to stay in contact with Weyburn fans. "I get a lot of support via Twitters from people in Weyburn, or Saskatchewan, or Canada, and even internationally. It is a fun way to interact with people who may not get to normally."
This week, DeLaet has a break from PGA competition. "I am enjoying a week at home this week. We don't get to spend much time at home, so we make the most of them when we get them." His next event will be the Houston Open, starting Mar. 29.
