Derby girls organize 1st annual Zombie walk

Zombies are hungry and so are millions of people around the world. Hunger is not just a problem in third world countries. It's a problem right here at home.

Zombies are hungry and so are millions of people around the world. Hunger is not just a problem in third world countries. It's a problem right here at home.

By joining the local derby girls of South East Saskatchewan Roller Derby Association (SESRDA) on the 1st Annual Zombie Walk in Estevan, you will help feed the need.

Anyone can participate; all we ask is participants bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation. We will collect these prior to leaving on the zombie walk. All donations will be given to the Estevan Salvation Army Food Bank to be distributed to people in the area.

This is a fun, family-oriented event. Participants are encouraged to dress in their zombie-best as there will be a "best costume" contest after the walk.

During the event, we encourage participants to remain in character as zombies. Zombies can communicate by grunting or moaning, or calling out for "brains."

The 1st Annual Zombie Walk takes place in Estevan Oct. 29, just in time for Halloween. Walkers are asked to meet at the Boston Pizza parking lot at 5 p.m., with the walk starting at 5:30 p.m. We will head out around Estevan in a "zombie mob," before making our way back.

We'll finish up around 7 p.m. with hot chocolate and snacks. Afterwards, everyone is invited to come glow bowling and have some fun with the derby girls.
