ECS table tennis thrives at provincials

Athletes bring home several medals

The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs table tennis team finished second at provincials.

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs’ table tennis team had a great showing at the provincial high school tournament in Saskatoon earlier this month.

ECS was second overall and they came home with 15 medals, including five gold, two silver and eight bronze.    

Coach Lindsay Collins, who has been guiding the program since 2013, said the students played very well and she was happy with the results. 

The season started in January and they have been working hard since then. 

“We’ve been practising Tuesdays and Thursdays,” she said.  

Gold medallists were: Michael Schmidt and Conner Mercer in high school boys’ doubles; Justin Folbar and Hannah Mercer in mixed doubles; and Michael Schmidt in the boys’ singles C-side event.

Silver medallists were Folbar in Grade 9-10 boys and Hannah Mercer in high school girls.

Bronze medals went to Darian Dennis in high school boys; Conner Mercer in Grade 9-10 boys; Cody-Lynn Hoffort in Grade 9-10 girls; Hoffort and Kristian Wilhelm in mixed doubles; Yoon Suh Jang and Dennis in B-side boys’ doubles; and Jang in C-side boys’ singles.

Eight schools were at provincials this year.
