Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins beat Swift Current to keep season alive

The Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins have enjoyed a great 2022-23 season.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins and the Swift Current Broncos are going the distance in their best-of-five Saskatchewan AA Hockey League South Division semifinal series.

Spencer Copeland scored 1:50 into overtime to lift Estevan to a 4-3 victory over the host Broncos Monday night.

Estevan led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Carter Beck and Jordan Marcotte. Swift Current tied the game early in the second, but Kobe Wotta restored Estevan’s advantage.

The Broncos tied the game again midway through the third period.

Ty Fehrenbach made 24 saves for Estevan, who outshot Swift Current 31-27.

The road team has won every game in the series.

Game 5 will be played Wednesday night in Estevan at 8:15 p.m.

The winner will play the Regina Vics in the south final.

Swift Current took a 2-1 series lead last Thursday with a 3-2 double-overtime victory in Estevan.

Copeland opened the scoring with 3:05 to play in the second period. Swift Current tied the game with under a minute remaining in the period and took a 2-1 lead in the third. Sutter Baily tied the game with a power-play goal with 7:07 to play in regulation.

The Broncos scored the winner early in the second overtime period.

Keagan Carley made 25 saves for Estevan, who outshot Swift Current 52-28.
