ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins wrapped up their preseason with a pair of victories over the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Virden Oil Capitals on the weekend.

Estevan scored three times in the third period to win 4-2 in Virden Friday night, and then had two in the first period on their way to a 3-1 victory in Estevan on Saturday.

Tyler Guy had a goal and two assists for Estevan on Friday, while Kade Runke, Jeremy Fortin and Owen Barrow had the other Bruin goals.

Cody Davis had two of Estevan’s goals on Saturday.

Jackson Miller was in goal both nights, and played the final three preseason contests. He made 21 saves on Friday, and came up with some timely saves for the Bruins early in the second period on Saturday.

Virden scored early in the second period to pull within a goal on Saturday, and the Oil Capitals had chances to tie with back to back power plays, but Miller and the Bruin defence denied them.

The Bruins finished the preseason with a 2-0-3 record. They will open the season Friday night against the Yorkton Terriers. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Affinity Place.
