ESTEVAN – For the second time in three nights, the Estevan Bruins picked up a lopsided shutout victory over the Humboldt Broncos.

The Bruins scored three times in just over a five-minute span of the second period to blow open a close 1-0 game, and beat the Broncos 5-0 on Saturday night in Estevan.

The victory came 48 hours after the Bruins routed the Broncos 6-0 Thursday night, also in Estevan.

Salvatore Collora opened the scoring with less than 6 1/2 minutes to play in the opening frame.

It remained a 1-0 contest until Owen Barrow scored 7:43 into the middle frame. It was Barrow’s first goal in the SJHL.

Goals by Aleksa Babic and Jagjeevan Phangura less than a minute apart gave the Bruins a 4-0 advantage after two periods. Phangura now has goals in four straight games and nine points in five games.

Tim Tychonick finished off the scoring with a goal midway through the third. It was also his first goal in the league.

Cam Hrdlicka stopped 36 shots, including 18 in the third period. He was also in goal for Thursday’s shutout.

Tristan Boileau (12 saves on 16 shots) and Benjamin Motew (three saves on four shots) split the goaltending duties for Humboldt.

The Bruins (12-11) will host the Melville Millionaires on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Broncos (13-6) will host the Notre Dame Hounds Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
