Estevan Bruins trounce Nipawin Hawks to open road trip

The Estevan Bruins beat the Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday night.

NIPAWIN - The Estevan Bruins opened their short road trip through northeast Saskatchewan on Tuesday night by defeating the Nipawin Hawks 6-0.

Nolan Jones opened the scoring 76 seconds into the first period, and Dayton Deics doubled the lead with a goal before the 10-minute mark of the opening frame.

Estevan took over in the second, as Mark Rumsey and Caelan Fitzpatrick scored 1:20 apart for a four-goal cushion.

Rumsey added his second of the game with 5:03 to play in the middle frame for a 5-0 Estevan lead.

The Bruins outshot the Hawks 16-3 in the second period.

Keagon Little rounded out the scoring midway through the third period.

Jones, Rumsey and Little all finished with three points on the night.

Cam Hrdlicka made 21 saves to get his first shutout in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The Bruins will be back on the ice Wednesday night when they visit the Melfort Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Estevan defeated Melfort 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday in Estevan.
