WILCOX - After a slow start to the season, the defending Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions are getting on a bit of a roll.

The Estevan Bruins beat the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night in Wilcox. It was the Bruins' third straight victory.

Kade Runke opened the scoring midway through the first period for Estevan. Bruins' goaltender Cam Hrdlicka put on a show in the frame, as the Bruins were outshot 18-5 by the Hounds.

Notre Dame finally solved Hrdlicka early in the second period when Evan Vanden Heuvel scored a power-play goal. But the Bruins replied a few minutes later when Runke scored his second of the game, also on a power play.

It remained a 2-1 game until Will Dawson scored with four seconds remaining in the third period.

Overtime solved nothing, although the Bruins did have a power play early in the extra frame. And neither team scored in the shootout until Logan Ziegler tallied for Estevan in the fifth round.

Hrdlicka finished with 43 saves on 45 shots. Tucker Inabinet of Notre Dame had 28 saves on 30 shots.

The Bruins will be back on the ice Friday night when they host the Nipawin Hawks, starting at 7 p.m.
