ESTEVAN - The Estevan IG Wealth Management U13 AA Bearcats wrapped up their inaugural season Saturday night by handing out awards.

Chelsea Madsen was named the team’s most valuable player. Haven Bourassa and Peyton McIntyre shared the award for the best defensive player. Bree Poelen was named the most improved, Lily Hlavka the most sportsmanlike and Olivia Von Sprecken won the digger award.

Coach Shawn Madsen said the team had a great season and he wasn’t ready for it to end. They were competitive most nights in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League. Being hard to play against became the team’s motto.

Their goal was that if they couldn’t bring home the win, they would make the other team earn it.

“I hope this season is a stepping stone for great hockey seasons to come,” Madsen said.
