Estevan U18 AAA Bears went 1-1 versus Prince Albert

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears hockey team had a 1-1 record during their home games on the weekend against the Prince Albert Mintos.

The Bears opened the weekend by defeating the Mintos 5-1. After a scoreless first period, Marc Belanger and Roan Burgess scored power-play goals in the middle frame to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. The Mintos notched their lone goal of the game with 22 seconds to play in the period.

Carter Onrait scored midway through the third period to restore the Bears' two-goal lead. Then he added his second of the game into an empty net with 86 seconds to make it a 4-1 game. Boston Tait, who was called up from the Estevan TS&M U15 AA Bruins for the game, scored his first goal in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League with 71 seconds to play to finish the scoring.

Goaltender Ty Fehrenbach, called up from the Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins, made 41 saves to get the win in goal for Estevan.

The Mintos gained their revenge on Sunday with a 7-0 victory. Prince Albert opened the scoring just over three minutes into the first period, added three goals in the second to lead 5-0, and chipped in two more in the third for the lopsided victory.

Cole Ivey made 24 saves for the Bears in his first start of the season.

The Bears have a 3-2-1 record in league play, which leaves them second in the league's standings. Their next games will be Oct. 13 and 14 in Saskatoon against the Contacts.
