The 2017 Lafleche Open Bonspiel at the Lafleche Curling Club drew to a close on February 4, with all three event finals starting at the same time. The final match ups took place right after a well-attended home-cooked meal of turkey and all the trimmings.
The ‘Lafleche Pharmacy A Event’ final on the centre sheet featured a pair of hometown rinks. Skip Ray Packet led his rink to an early three-point lead and had momentum going his way until Paul Dumont executed a difficult angle raise takeout with his final stone in the third end to tie the game.
The Lafleche Curling Club continues to be busy. “Soon we will begin the club playdown to see which rink will win the championship team jackets. We started a tradition of presenting team jackets to the club champion a few years ago and it adds an element of excitement and prestige to the playdowns,” said Layman. “In the meantime, I encourage our local teams to support the bonspiels coming up in Glentworth, Gravelbourg, Mankota, Pontiex and Assiniboia.”
The Lafleche Curling Club is a fixture in the town and was established in 1914.
