Former local and daughter of City Councillor Nancy Styles, Sharon Styles, came in first place at the Athleta Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Women's Triathlon in Lake Las Vegas on April 30.
Over 600 women participated in the sprint race distance triathlon, which featured an 800-metre swim, 22.5-kilometre bike, and a five-kilometre run. Styles competed in the aged 35 to 39 division and won the race in a time of 1:20:15.
"The course itself was a difficult one; lots of hills on both the bike and the run and it was very windy that day," explained Styles.
She said that the race was run on a gravel road out in the desert under a hot sun.
