Carlyle Golf Club hosted a collection of 40 young golfers recently at the fifth annual Junior Golf Tournament. While the local area was well represented, some players came from as far away as Manitoba to take part in the tournament.

With the last days of school summer break winding down, Carlyle Golf Club drew 40 young golf enthusiasts to take part in a junior golf tournament.

For the fifth successful year, the Carlyle Golf Club hosted their Juniors Golf Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Forty youth, aged between eight- and 17-years of age, came together to compete for prizes provided generously by the Carlyle business community.

Beginning with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. the youth came from as far away as Manitoba and as close as Carlyle to take part in the tournament.

"The youth were great, very respectful of the course and the staff at the course," said Carlyle Golf Club employee Jim Reed. "They were very good with each other as well. I think that it is a really great thing that these kids were so good with everything."

"Also, the organizers did a wonderful job putting the event together this year," Reed said. "Jackie Rutledge, Brittany Fox, Marc Shaw and Brendan Shaw all did a great job."

The winners of the event each took home a $20 certificate to the club, a hoodie sweater, return golf games, and a sleeve of Pro V golf balls.

"We are very grateful for the support of the Carlyle business community," Reed said. "They step up to the plate every year for all kinds of different events, functions and fundraisers, and still they continue to provide support."

"This summer, we have seen their support at the Sink or Swim tournament, the Drive-for-a-Cure tournament, and the Junior Tournament," Reed said. "I really think these businesses deserve to be recognized for the outstanding support for the community that they so willingly provide."

Winning the Championship Flight were Kelvin Stefanuik and Josh Hassler.

Winning the First Flight were Carson Harcourt and Chance Heaton.

The Second Flight winners were Jace Woods and Jory Schwean.

The Third Flight winners included Walker Hengen and Rylie James.
