Russell Lenferna, a 16-year-old Weyburn resident who competed with the Weyburn Hurricanes Water Polo Club, has been selected to train with the Under-18 Men's National Team in Montreal for the summer Lenferna has also been carded by the national team, which means that he receives a stipend to assist in the costs of his training. The national team only provided four such cards for athletes born in 1994 and it is an indication that the national team's evaluators have identified an athlete for development toward the men's national team.Lenferna led Team Saskatchewan to a fifth place finish at the National Club Championships held May long weekend and was named to the all-star team for his play during the tournament. Lenferna scored the winning goal against the Toronto-based York Mavericks with two seconds remaining in regulation time to secure fifth.Lenferna currently plays with Team Saskatchewan out of Regina.
