The past week has been action-filled with hockey nights for the Novice Cougar Team coached by Jeff Humphries and Larry Rae. The kids have been working hard and playing hard.

On Monday, February 4th, the 8 and under team played Arcola. This was an action-filled, fast-paced, back & forth game. With Drayden Arndt in net, the Cougars pounced past the Combines with a final score of 10-6. Colby Cuddington was on fire & scored all the goals but the last when Logan Romaniuk got his chance and put one past the Arcola goalie.

On Wednesday, February 6th, we played our home game in Manor versus Kipling 1. Both teams are full of strong skaters and again the parents and fans were treated to an exciting display of hockey. The final score was 7-5 for Carlyle. Both Colby Cuddington and Krimson Standingready had a multi-goal game. Cooper Humphries & Colby also earned assists.

On the weekend the Novice Cougars hosted a variety of teams in the 8 and under tournament. Carlyle played two games both days. Logan Romaniuk had his chance between the posts and on Saturday the Cougars won both their games against the Estevan Canucks and the Estevan Flames. The first game against the Canucks was a real nail-biter, ending in a tie and then won in a shoot-out! Goals were scored by Kaysha Turner, Drayden Arndt, Cadence Chapman, Colby, Cooper and Krimson. Assists went to Tyrell Dixon, Colby and Cadence.

Sunday was a different story when Carlyle played the Redvers Rockets & the Estevan Bears. Logan played goal for the first game and Cadence Chapman took her turn between the posts for the second game. Both games resulted in losses for our Cougars, but hey - you can't win them all! Everyone on the team tried their best and should be proud of the effort.

We have a week left of league play, with a game in town on Saturday at 10:15 against Carnduff and another on Sunday in Kipling at 1pm. The team will have a little break before playoffs start the final week of February.

The Novice Cougars have been invited to a tournament in Calgary and will be raising money with a bottle drive, tentatively planned for Feb. 28. Further details will follow and flyers will be posted. Please support your local team when they knock on your door.
