On Jan. 4 the Carlyle Novice Cougars wend head to head with the Redvers Rockets. Mason Barta stared the team off with the first goal of 2014. Mitch Himmelspach and Jakson Humphries won the battles in the corners and helped their team out with a few more goals.

The Cougars' defense didn't make it easy for the Rockets to get to the net with Samantha Colpitts and Darcie Rae solid on the blue line. It was plain to see this team didn't have any turkey legs after this Christmas with Chase Robertson putting a few more points on the scoreboard with his fancy stick work.

Grady Benjamin and Ty Fehrenbach didn't waste any time passing the puck up the ice to their teammates which took the puck out of our end, putting it back in the Rockets' end. Alexander Bradley has found his passion as a goalie and he is great at it, making save after save when the rockets put pressure on our net.

Daine Thomas doesn't have a problem playing any position. He always does his job and it paid off today with a goal for himself. Blake Robertson scores his first goal in 2014 with some hard work in front of the net. Tyrell Dixon on center was winning the faceoffs and putting the puck in the net, which put the Cougars in the lead.

Everett Brown is solid in his position on defense by taking the puck off the Rockets' sticks and passing it in front of their net. Kale Arndt must have been practicing during the holidays because it showed in this game, as he carried the puck from one end to the other with skill and speed. The Cougars won this game with some great team work.

Carlyle Cougars win 2nd game of the new year:

On Jan. 5 the puck dropped at exactly 12:00 for a regular league game against another Redvers Rockets team and Tyrell Dixon won the faceoff, giving the Cougars possession of the puck. This team has been taught that passing the puck and being a team player is how a real hockey game is played, which is exactly how Jakson Humphries and Daine Thomas spend their time on the ice.

Kale Arndt remembered everything he learned in practice and put the puck in the back of the net. The Rockets were determined and put the pressure on , but with Alexander Bradley between the pipes, the Cougars knew he had their backs. Staying solid in position Grady Benjamin and Everett Brown made it a challenge for the Rockets to get many shots on net. Mason Barta and Mitch Himmelspach never seemed to get tired, as every time they are on the ice they give 110%.

The game was close and it was keeping everyone on their toes, even with Ty Fehrenbach having a rest in the penalty box, giving the Rockets a 5 on 4 advantage. Chase Robertson didn't seem worried as be battled for the puck and passed it up the ice resulting in another goal for the Cougars.

With the Cougars taking the lead, Darcy Rae and Samantha Colpitts were determined to keep it that way while the dug for the puck and passed it up the boards to another payer. Even with the Cougars in the lead, you can always depend on Blake Robertson to be winning the battles in the corner.

The Cougars claimed a 7-3 victory, but the Rockets didn't make it easy for them. Great team work Cougars!
