Playoffs begin Friday at the Centennial Cup

ESTEVAN - The playoffs will begin Friday afternoon at the Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons, which is happening in Estevan.

The first game will pit the Ontario Junior Hockey League champions, the Pickering Panthers, who finished second in Group A, against Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League representatives, the Flin Flon Bombers, who were third in Group B. That game will start at 4 p.m.

Pickering finished with two regulation wins, an overtime win and a regulation loss for eight points in the round robin. Flin Flon had a regulation win, two extra-time wins and a regulation loss for seven points.  

The other game is the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League, who finished second in Group B, against College Francais de Longueuil of the Ligue de Junior Hockey AAA du Quebec, who were third in Group A. It is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Summerside had two regulation wins, an overtime win and a regulation loss in the round robin, while Longueuil had two regulation wins, a regulation loss and an overtime loss.

The winners of these games will advance to the semifinals on Saturday. The Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Brooks Bandits (Group A) and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Dauphin Kings (Group B) have already advanced to the semifinals after winning their respective pools.

The final will be played Sunday at 4 p.m.
