REGINA — In their lone game last week, the Regina Pats fell 5-2 to Swift Current at home Saturday. With a 7-8-0-1 record, the team is seventh in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference. The squad has gone 4-5-0-1 over its last 10 contests.

The Regina club wraps up a five-game homestand on Wednesday by hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Pats then play in Swift Current on Friday, host the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday and play in Saskatoon on Sunday.

On Saturday the Broncos held a 3-0 lead by the second intermission thanks to goals by Sam McGinley, Josh Filmon, and Connor Hvidston. The Pats struck back with powerplay markers by Alexander Suzdalev and Stanislav Svozil to cut the Swift Current lead to 3-2. Filmon added an insurance goal and Josh Davies scored an empty netter.

For the Pats, Matthew Kieper made 20 saves. Gage Alexander had 40 for the Broncos.

The Pats added 17-year-old forward Zackary Shantz last week. They acquired him and a 2023 third round prospects draft pick from Prince George for forward Cole Dubinsky, who turns 20 in December. An alternate captain this season, Dubinsky recorded 38 goals and 65 assists in 302 games with the Pats.

Shantz, an Edmonton product, had played four games for Prince George this season. He had not picked up a point. For the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep program last season, the 5-foot-10, 145-pounder had 23 goals and 34 assists over 28 games.
