Rick Halberg sets new course record at Woodlawn; Roxanne Willerth wins women’s event at Frametech Classic

A course record was set and the women's champion was crowned during Day 2 of the Frametech Classic at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

ESTEVAN - It was a historic day during Day 2 at the FrameTech Classic at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

Weyburn’s Rick Halberg, competing in the senior men’s event, set a course record by shooting a 59 on Sunday. He birdied the first, second, fourth, seventh and ninth holes, and eagled the third, to shoot a 29 on the front nine; and birdied holes 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 on the back nine.

Halberg (73-59, 132, 12-under-par) entered the day with a one-stroke lead on Mike Ross, but now has an 18-shot advantage on Ross (74-76, 150) and James Gordon (78-72, 150). Ross and Gordon are each 6-over-par.

Roxanne Willerth won the women’s division of the tournament with a two-day total of 166. She had an 80 in the first day and an 86 on the second. Willerth played Hole 9 and the back 9 in the first round at 1-under-par.

In the second round Sunday, she shot a 44 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine.

Jenna Grube (88-84, 172) was six strokes back of Willerth. Leanne Schellenberg (88-91, 179) was third and Maxine Starkewski (89-92, 191) came in fourth.

In the men’s event, Daryl Donovan (68-67, 135) sits at 9-under-par, and holds a three-stroke lead of Jayden Dudas (73-65, 138, 6-under) in the championship flight. Jace Carlisle (74-68, 142, 2-under) is third.

Logan Chernoff, Nolan Rohatyn and Preston Erickson are tied for fourth at 1-under-par 143.

The champions in the men’s and senior men’s divisions will be crowned Monday.

The annual Dave Price Memorial Horse Race began at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. It pits the 12 golfers from the championship flight in an elimination event on the golf course’s front nine.
