Senior Rebels top the Notekeu League

In weekend games in the Notekeu League, the Assiniboia Rebels doubled the Rockglen Nitehawks 6-3 on November 24. The Nitehawks jumped ahead in the first period with the first goal by Adrien Prefontaine. The second period belonged to the Rebels which scored five unanswered goals including Mitch Hollick with two, and one each from Zach Evans, Austin Grywachewski, and Derek Lessmeister. Brody Beliveau and Mike Harden of the Nitehawks brought the southern team to within striking distance. Late in the game, Lane Cayer put the game out of reach.

It was another solid 60 minutes for Spencer Bushell in net. The game was rather tame with 10 penalties handed out in total to both sides. Two of Assiniboia’s goals were on powerplays.

Elsewhere in the league on November 24, Hodgeville Huskies edged past the Glentworth Thunder 4-3. The teams kept pace with each other scoring goal for goal but the Huskies snuck in an extra goal in the second to take the win. Josh Smith, Taylor Cowie, and Cash Gorwick scored for Glentworth, while Tyrell Newton and Colton Adam scored singles for the Huskies and Dalton Menke snagged a pair. There were 12 penalties handed out for the night.

The Notekeu League featured three match ups on November 25 that were all high scoring entertaining games for fans. In the first game, Mossbank Blades welcomed Rockglen Nitehawks on home ice, defeating the visitors 10-3. As in the previous game, the Nitehawks jumped ahead scoring first in the first period with a shorthanded goal by Kyle Bouvier off a Kaylem Prefontaine quick pass. Reid Howe of Mossbank tied up the game early in the second, but Rockglen surged ahead halfway through the second period with a power play goal by Kaylem Prefontaine. Riley Mulvena scored a third goal for the Nitehawks in the third.

The Blades gained momentum near the final minutes of the second period and began their scoring deluge. Eric Howe and Adam Dalshaug finished the period with two more for the home team. Devin Gerun started the scoring for Mossbank in the third. Gerun scored four goals in the third period, Kyle Arndt scored two, and Chase Griffen scored an unassisted goal.

Hodgeville Huskies blanked the Gravelbourg Hornets 8-0 in Gravelbourg on November 25. The Huskies began with a power play goal from Kyle Goffinet in the fourteenth minute of the first period. Hodgeville racked up the points quickly with three in the first, four in the second and one in the third period. Dalton Menke scored two goals, Kyler Sachkowski scored two, while Brett Stolson, Derek Thomas and Travis Kennedy scored one each. Hodgeville has two wins and two loses on the season so far.

In another match up, Coronach Merchants defeated Glentworth Thunder 8-0 on home ice. Eight goals seemed to be a poplar score on this night. The Merchants sprinkled their scoring evenly across the periods, netting three in the first, two in the second, and three in the third. Goals for Coronach came from Braden Rood, Garrett Foley, Chris Bartlett, Catlin Foley, Logan Skinner and Austin Paradis with a goal apiece. Curtis Noll scored twice. It was a very chippy game with 26 penalties handed out in total with the most going to Glentworth. Dakota Foley had the clean sheet for Coronach.

Upcoming games for the December 1 and 2 weekend include three match ups on December 1. Coronach Merchants take their winning streak to meet the Mossbank Blades. Rockglen Nitehawks face off against Hodgeville Huskies. Gravelbourg Hornets hope to change their fortunes against the Assiniboia Rebels. On December 2, the Assiniboia Senior Rebels take on the Glentworth Thunder, while Mossbank meets Rockglen.

Assiniboia leads the league in first place with four wins, followed closely by Coronach with four wins, Hodgeville sits in third with two wins and Mossbank in fourth with two wins. Both teams have played only four games. Glentworth is in fifth place and has two wins in five games. Gravelbourg and Glentworth complete the standings.
