ASSINIBOIA - The Richardson Pioneer Southern Rebels have been busy this summer getting a team ready for the 2021-22 season. The team is almost finalized, with only a few spots open on the roster.
The Rebels will have several rookies in the line-up, hoping that they can keep the core of the team for next season, going into the inaugural season of the new hockey arena.
The Southern Rebels compete in the Prairie Junior Hockey League.
They compete in the Bill Johnston division, along with the Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals, Silver Foxes, Fort Knox, and Pilot Butte Storm.
The Southern Rebels were extremely lucky with sponsors this season. The community has been very generous, as the Rebels rely heavily on the community for sponsorship funds.
Previous and current sponsors are valuable in providing financial support to the Rebels. The Assiniboia Kinsmen made a donation that was instrumental in keeping the team viable coming out of the pandemic.
Richardson Pioneer was also very generous this off-season. Cam Elder of Richardson Pioneer signed off on a three-year sponsorship agreement that will see the Southern Rebels become the Richardson-Pioneer Southern Rebels for the foreseeable future. The funds offered by Richardson-Pioneer will secure the team’s future in the PJHL for the next three seasons and hopefully more.
The team is also still looking for billet families for a few of their players. Many of these players have left their home for the first time and having a billet family is imperative for the player’s growth and to keep the team sustainable.
If anyone would like to provide a caring home for one of the young players, please contact the Richardson-Pioneer Southern Rebels at firstname.lastname@example.org.
