The 12th annual "Swing for Scholarships" golf tournament was successful in raising approximately $5,600 for the Centennial Merit Scholarship program at Southeast Regional College. Although temperatures were a bit cooler than normal, all 52 golfers were treated to a rain?free day of golf, a delicious steak barbecue and a variety of prizes at the Weyburn Golf Club on September 17.
The team earning the lowest score for the tournament was from Carry the Kettle First Nation.
Marketing Coordinator for Southeast Regional College Dave Harazny said he was very satisfied with the tournament results.
"We had a few less golfers than previous years, but the bottom line is that we raised $5,600 for students studying at the College, which is fantastic for a one?day event like this," said Harazny. "It's hard to believe that we just finished our 12th golf tournament, and each year our southeast community comes through with their support. I can't give enough praise to our sponsors, golfers, and volunteers who continually participate in this event."
Proceeds from this tournament will be matched by the Government of Saskatchewan through the Centennial Merit Scholarship program.
"The $5,600 raised from this event actually translates into $11,200 in scholarships," emphasized Harazny. "Our students are very grateful for the financial support that our scholarships offer, and the College is very grateful for the Government's continued commitment to this program."
The Swing for Scholarships golf tournament is truly a regional event with sponsors and participants from in and around Weyburn, Estevan, Assiniboia, and Regina. When asked about next year's tournament, Harazny added that planning has already begun, with a priority placed on warmer weather.
