WEYBURN - The Weyburn Comp Eagles were flying high on Friday night, as they traveled to Estevan and earned a 43-0 victory over the Elecs.
Touchdowns were scored from Ben Michel, Austin Knupp (2), Ben Manning, Ryder Knox and Conner Kerr.
As a rookie player, quarterback Kerr said, “we are looking really good right now, and are playing as a team. We really took the pressure (to Estevan) and really had the competitive edge all game.”
He is looking forward “to playing alongside the veteran players, and learning from them.”
Jayden Hartman is a rookie offensive and defensive lineman. “I like that we have fun and learn new stuff.”
He had a couple of tackles during the game against Estevan, and said, “It is important to stay low, and keep your eyes on the opposing player.”
Isaiah Sanderson is a rookie slotback and defensive back. “I looking forward to getting more time on the field and learning more skills. I am looking forward to learning from my seniors. We have good chemistry with the team and the coaches so far.”
“It felt good (to win against Estevan). We ran the ball early, had some good blocking, and back on defense we made sure to stop the run and the short passes, so they couldn’t get a first down with the starting defense,” added Sanderson.
Rookie linebacker Owen Istace said of the victory, “The season is going good so far, with two wins. It is really looking good. Defensively, Estevan didn’t get a chance to score at all, which was our goal for the game. Offensively, we ran the ball a lot during the start, and just played hard.”
“As of now, we have a good chance to get into the playoffs, as long as we keep on playing the way we have,” added Istace. “We should do pretty good in playoffs.”
The Senior Eagles now enter into their bye week with their next action being a home game on Saturday, October 2. The Junior Varsity Eagles traveled to Moose Jaw on Sept. 21 to play MJ Peacock.
