Weyburn Beavers drop six games, play three doubleheaders

After dropping six games during game action in the Western Major Baseball League, the Weyburn Senior Beavers have fallen to last place in the east division.Playing in Melville on Saturday, the Beavers lost 6-2. The Millionaires had an early three-run lead by the bottom of the second and were kept from scoring any further runs until the eighth inning, when they scored three. The Beavers were able to score one run in the sixth and one run in the ninth inning.On the mound was Trever Sorenson and Micky Bullard.The Beavers split a doubleheader against Swift Current at home on Friday evening. They won the first game 6-3 and then lost the second game 11-2. In the first game, Swift Current scored two runs in the first and one in the second inning. The Beavers had a strong second inning, scoring five runs and then captured one more run in the third. Scoring runs for Weyburn was Keith Rowan, Kilby Perdomo, Dillon Yeaman, Taylor Van de Sype, and Daniel Perron.In the second game, Swift Current scored three runs in the first inning, and Weyburn was only able to catch up with one run scored in the second. Swift Current scored one run in the fourth, four runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh. The Beavers were able to score one more run in the bottom of the seventh.On the mound in the first game was Julien Soucy, and in the second game was Erik Scott, Pearce McDonald, Jeremy Zink and Braden Rudy.In a doubleheader against Moose Jaw at home on July 1, the Beavers lost 8-4 and 8-2 against the Miller Express.The first game had a more even start, with a 1-1 tie in the first inning. Moose Jaw pulled ahead with one run in the second, then scored six runs in the sixth inning. The Beavers were only able to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth.In the second game, Weyburn had a one-run lead by the third, and was able to score one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Moose Jaw took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, captured one run in the sixth and then secured the win with three runs scored in the seventh inning.On the mound during the first game for the Beavers was Jesse Elam and Alex Gale. For the second game on the mound was Phil Curtis, Morgan Cirbo, Eric Evans and Brad Weisgerber.In a doubleheader in Swift Current on June 30, the Beavers lost 9-3 and 7-3 against the Indians. In the first game, Swift Current captured an early four run lead in the second inning. Weyburn was able to come back at the top of the third by scoring two runs, but the Indians kept their lead by matching the two runs in the bottom of the third.One more run was scored by the Beavers at the top of the fourth, and Swift Current extended their lead by three runs in that same inning. On the mound for Weyburn was Jeremy Zink, Brad Weisgerber, Pearce McDonald and Julien Soucy.In the second game, Swift Current had an early 7-1 lead by the end of the second inning. After these runs were scored, starting pitcher Dillon Yeaman was relieved on the mound by Micky Bullard, who kept the Indians from scoring any further runs in the game. The Beavers were kept from scoring until the seventh inning, when they were able to score two runs before the shortened game ended.The Beavers will be on their Alberta road trip this week. They played Medicine Hat on Monday and Tuesday, and will be in Edmonton today, July 7, and Thursday, July 8.
