Weyburn Comp teams do well in busy sports weekend

The Comp Eagles girls soccer and volleyball teams won over the weekend

WEYBURN - The Weyburn Comprehensive Eagles teams were kept busy over the Sept. 17-18 weekend, many doing quite well in their games.

Senior Girls Soccer

The Weyburn Eagles Girls Soccer team had a hard fought win 3-1 over Moose Jaw Vanier on Saturday on their home field. They battled through 30-degree heat at game time in a gutsy 90-minute game.

They played together as a team and overcame injuries and even playing a man down to still win the game. Goals were scored by Maddie Sheasby (2), and Sierra Chief (1).

Senior girls volleyball

The WCS senior girls volleyball team attended a 16-team tournament, Mega Volley, in Regina this weekend. In their first pool play, they lost a close one to Lumsden in their first game but then won their next two games beating Sheldon Williams and Winston Knoll.

They re-pooled and came out on top of the re-pool beating Harvest City, Thom Collegiate, and MJ Central. In the quarter final, they faced Raymore, beating them in three games.

In the semi-final they had a tight match against MJ Peacock beating them 25-19 and 25-21, which sent them to the final against Greenall from Balgonie. The girls played really well beating Balgonie in two straight games, 25-19 and 25-20, to be crowned the champions.

Senior B Girls

The Senior B girls volleyball team competed in the Ogema/Pangman Senior Girls Tournament on the weekend. The girls went undefeated through the round robin, beating teams from Radville, Fillmore and Midale.

They played Gladmar in the semi-final to advance to the final against Yellow Grass. The final was a hard-fought battle against Yellow Grass. The team earned the win in a three-set final.

Senior Boys Volleyball

The WCS Eagles Senior Boys Volleyball Team attended a tournament in Avonlea and Rouleau this past weekend. The boys were able to clinch a playoff spot by finishing fourth in their pool after the round robin but fell to the Rouleau Rebels in the crossover playoff match. The team will travel to Swift Current next weekend.
