Gold WIngs lose heart-breaker in shootout after four scoreless periods

WEYBURN - The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings remain in a search for their first win after dropping a pair of home games to the Battleford Sharks, including a heart-breaking shootout loss on Sunday afternoon by 1-0.

The two teams battled in overtime after a scoreless three periods of regulation play and a scoreless overtime period, only to see the Sharks finally get a goal to end the game.

Goaltender Lexi Peace played a total of 70 minutes not letting any goals in, facing 50 shots in total, while the Sharks goalie, Taylor Enns, faced 33 shots.

The two teams also played on Saturday evening and the Sharks came away with a 4-0 victory. The teams were again evenly matched in the scoreless first period, but then the Sharks notched three goals in the second period, and added a fourth in the third period.

Hailey Sibbald played all three periods in goal, saving 27 of 31 shots, while Emma Backman faced 21 shots at the Sharks end.

Coming up for the Gold Wings is a game against the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m.
