Weyburn Gold Wings post back-to-back wins

The Gold Wings won by scores of 1-0 and 3-2 over the Battleford Sharks on Saturday and Sunday.

WEYBURN – The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Gold Wings had a successful weekend, as they posted back-to-back wins over the visiting Battlefords Sharks.

The Gold Wings shut out the Sharks 1-0 on Saturday evening, and 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

In their Saturday game, the Gold Wings’ lone goal was scored by Randell Banga in the third period, assisted by Abigail Manz and Kendal Leader. Banga was named the game star for the Gold Wings.

Amy Swayze was in net for the full 60 minutes, and saved all 31 shots on net.

On Sunday, the Gold Wings scored twice in the second period and late in the third to claim the win.

Kiah Shields scored, with assists from Manz and Julianne Girardin, and Hadley Revenko scored on the powerplay, with assists by Ashton Bender and Girardin.

The winning goal was Shields’ second goal, assisted by Jenay Hyndman and Bender.

Hailey Sibbald was in net for this game, and saved 35 of the 37 shots made on net.

In team news, Girardin has committed to play for the University of Regina Cougars for the 2023-24 season.

The next action for the Gold Wings will be in Saskatoon on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27, with the game time at 2 p.m. both days.
