Weyburn hosts Provincial 4-H Curling Championships

A total of 75 4-H members converged on the Weyburn Curling RInk for the Provincial 4-H Curling championships

WEYBURN – A total of 75 4-H members registered from across Saskatchewan to attend the 2022 Provincial 4-H curling championships held at the Weyburn Curling Rink over the long weekend.

There were eight senior teams and seven junior teams. Opening ceremonies included the ceremonial first rock thrown by Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy, with the rock swept by 4-H Saskatchewan ambassadors Madeline Christiansen and Keira Hawreluik. 

The Champion Junior team from the North East region was District 18/19, with members Bristol Lindgren, Paisley Wolkowski, Weston Lindgren, Presley Vogel and coach Jennifer Lindgren. This team went undefeated. 

Second place junior champions were from the South West Region, from District 10, and  consisted of Makenna Robertson, Jane Beierbach, Luke Moorhead, Paden Robertson with coach Emmy Robertson. The Champion Senior team was from the North West region, the Sunset Riders Multiple 4-H Club, including Harper Doige, Tyler Norman, Ryder Boyenko, Kaydende Lalonde and coach Ryan Norman. Due to double knockout rules, the final game was repeated to determine the winner with Sunset Riders coming out on top.

The second place senior champions were from the South East Region, the Longlakton Multiple 4-H Club, with team members Ryan Grabarczyk, Karla Friesen, Brett Rumpel, Jana Rumpel with coach Sean Friesen.

Committee chair Brittany Stepp awarded the teams with their prizes, trophies and certificates on Sunday.

The banquet was held at McKenna Hall where Jenae Nixon presented an inspirational speech for all members in attendance. Mayor Marcel Roy Mayor, 4-H President Cameron Choquette, and Kurtis Schwindt of MNP also brought greetings and congratulations to the members.
