Weyburn Iron Pigs advance to next round of playoffs

The Iron Pigs will face up against the Regina Dodgers in a best-of-three semi-final series.

WEYBURN - The Weyburn Iron Pigs will advance to the next round of playoffs for the Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League, after beating the Moose Jaw Padres in the opening round.

They will face up against the Regina Dodgers in a best-of-three semi-final series. Game one of the series will be held in Regina tonight, August 16.

The Iron Pigs had a strong showing by defeating the Moose Jaw Padres 8-0 at Tom Laing Park on Sunday evening in game three of the best-of-three first round series. 

The Iron Pigs scored six runs early in the second inning, and added two more runs in the fifth inning.

Eric Evans pitched the entire game, with only four hits during the game.

The Iron Pigs were in Moose Jaw for game two of the series on August 11, and fell 10-3 to the Padres. Moose Jaw had a strong start to that game, with four runs in the first inning, two in the fourth inning, three in the fifth inning and one additional run in the sixth inning.

The Iron Pigs were able to score two runs in the sixth inning, and one at the top of the seventh inning.
