Weyburn Iron Pigs tie up best-of-three series

The Iron Pigs stayed alive and will go to a third game in the playoffs

The Weyburn Iron Pigs lost their first game of a best-of-three playoff series against the Regina Dodgers in Regina on Thursday by the score of 6-3, and then tied it up with a 6-2 win at home on Tuesday night.

The Iron Pigs had won their first playoff round for the Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League.

In the first game, which the team was only informed about on Thursday morning, the Dodgers were first on the board with a run in the third inning.

The Iron Pigs were able to get a run in the fourth, but the Dodgers followed up with five more runs. Weyburn was able to add two more runs in the fifth inning, but that was all the offence they could produce in the game.

The runs came from Mike Onstad, who also had a hit; Evan Schultz, who had two hits; and Ryan Kolke, who also had a hit.

Eric Evans was on the mound for six innings and had 12 hits, six runs and 12 strike-outs.

On Tuesday night, the two teams traded runs in the first inning, and then the Iron Pigs broke it open in the third as they made the score 4-1, including one score from a walk to loaded bases. They added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to wrap up the victory.

Ethan Orsted was on the mound for the full seven innings, allowing only three hits and two runs, and getting 12 strike-outs in a solid performance.

This now sends the series to game 3 in Regina, with the date yet to be determined.
