Weyburn powerlifters attend competition at Olympia In Depth Fitness

Around 20 powerlifters from the Weyburn area took part in the local competition

WEYBURN – Powerlifters from the Weyburn area gathered at Olympia In Depth Fitness on Saturday for a competition.  

From Weyburn, Michaela Selinger, Alyssa DeMarchi, and Joselene Keating competed in their first powerlifting match.

The female overall best lifter was Marnel Spencer. She competed in the master three category and scored 82.5 kg in squat, 56 kg in bench and 127.5 kg in deadlift, for a total of 252. This was Marnel’s first contest as a Master 3 lifter, so she set new provincial records for all of her lifts.

Michelle Buchanan competed in the 84 and over kg open category. Her squat was 132.5 kg, bench was 95, and deadlift was 160.

Randy Schiller competed in the 105 kg master three category. His squat was 206 kg, bench of 135 kg and deadlift was 230 kg.

Selinger competed in the 63 kg open category. Her bench was 85, bench 50 and deadlift 110. DeMarchi competed in the 69 kg open category. Her squat was 90, bench was 55 and deadlift was 137.5.

Chance Doud competed in the 93 kg open category, and only competed in bench with a 132.5 kg score.

Kristin Balog competed in the 84 kg and over master one category. Her squat was 120kg , bench was 67.5 kg and deadlift was 130 kg.

Natalie Butz competed in the 84 kg sub-junior category. Her squat was 90 kg, bench was 57.5 kg and deadlift was 127.5 kg.

Joselene Keating competed in the 84 kg master one category. Her squat was 115 kg, bench was 75 kg and deadlift was 132.5 kg. Calla Hrynewich competed in the 63 kg sub-junior category and only competed in bench with a 75-kg score.

Rhys Fowler competed in the 66 kg youth one category. His squat was 42.5 kg, bench was 26 kg and deadlift was 65 kg.

All the lifters could move on to Provincials with their totals from this meet, according to organizer Heidi Fowler. Michelle Hala and Kristin Balog got their Regional qualifying total, while Joselene Keating hit the National qualifying total.
