WEYBURN – The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings won their last three games, two at home, before heading out on a six-game road trip, starting on Monday at Notre Dame.

The Wings defeated the Yorkton Terriers 7-5 in Yorkton on Feb. 14, then edged out the Hounds at home on Friday night 3-2, and then beating the Terriers again by a 3-1 score on home ice on Saturday.

In Friday’s win, the Hounds got on the board first with a goal in the first period, then Jackson Hassman scored in the second to tie the game, assisted by Ryley Morgan and Ty Mason.

Nick Kovaks scored in the third period, assisted by Simon Pollock and Mason, and then Mason scored his 20th of the season, assisted by Morgan to give the Wings a 3-1 lead.

Notre Dame pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, and they scored at 16:31 of the third, but the Wings held on for the win.

Dazza Mitchell was in goal for the full game, saving 37 of the 39 shots made on net.

On Saturday night, Weyburn was on the scoreboard first, as Morgan scored his 20th of the season, assisted by Mason, on the power play.

Yorkton tied the game in the second period, but the Red Wings regained the lead with a goal by Braigh LeGrandeur at the nine-minute mark of the third period, assisted by Elijah Anderson.

Hassman scored on the power play with 46 seconds left on the clock, assisted by Morgan and Mason.

Eric Kahl was in net for Weyburn, and stopped 34 of the 35 shots that came his way.

The Red Wings will begin their six-game road trip in Wilcox on Family Day Monday.

The Wings will head north for two games in Flin Flon, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, and will be back in Wilcox to face the Hounds on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and then they’re in Kindersley to play the Klippers on Saturday, March 4.
