Cattle prices up at Mankota auction

The Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Co. held an all-class sale on February 10 with 140 head sold. Bulls weighing between 1000 to 2000 lbs. sold between $90 and $96 per cwt. This is up from the $82.15 per cwt average price at the last sale on December 9.

The Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Co. held an all-class sale on February 10 with 140 head sold. Bulls weighing between 1000 to 2000 lbs. sold between $90 and $96 per cwt. This is up from the $82.15 per cwt average price at the last sale on December 9. Bulls over 2001 lbs. sold at $104 per cwt, up from $75 per cwt in December. Cows sold between $27.50 and $124 per cwt, which is up from $81.98 per cwt at the last sale. Heiferettes ranged between $107 and $126.50 per cwt, which is a narrower range from the $70 to $133 per cwt prices at the December sale. Steers in the 801 and 900 lb. weight category sold for $124 per cwt, which is down from the $163 per cwt in December.
In upcoming sales, the Mankota Stockmen’s Weigh Co. holds an all class sale featuring yearlings on March 17. The 19th annual 49th Parallel Black Angus Bull sale and Open Replacement Heifer sale take place on March 27. The third Annual Grasslands Black Angus Bull Sale goes on March 31.
A total of 12,900 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan for the week ending February 3. This is down from 17,001 head sold the previous week, but up from 12,040 head sold the same week a year ago.
Saskatchewan feeder steer prices were reported in all weight categories over the week with feeder steer prices lower in all weight categories. Feeder steer prices declined between $1.92 per cwt and $7.58 per cwt. The 700-800 lb. feeder steer weight category had the largest loss over the week declining $7.58 per cwt; and no weight categories had any price gains. Saskatchewan feeder heifer prices were reported in all weight categories over the week with prices ending lower in all weight categories from the previous week. Feeder heifer prices ranged between $3.85 per cwt lower and $7.03 per cwt lower from the previous week. The largest price decline was in the 800 lb. and up feeder heifer weight category. No feeder heifer weight categories had any price gains.
Prices for liveweight, non-fed cattle in Alberta were lower over the week. The price of D1,2 slaughter cows over the week declined $2.11 per cwt to average $93.14 per cwt, while the price of D3 slaughter cows declined $3.10 per cwt to average $82.00 per cwt. Fed cattle prices for Alberta fed steers were reported to average $156.17 per cwt over the week, down $2.15 per cwt from $158.32 per cwt the previous week.
