Former teacher upset to hear McLeod Series cancelled

Former WCS teacher Bob King, who is also an alumnus of ECS, was "shocked" to hear the McLeod Series was cancelled, and asked for the decision to be reconsidered

To the Editor:

I was shocked to hear that there would be no McLeod Series this year, and I feel I must make a response if that is true.

As a person who has been around the McLeod Series for over 65 years, I was shocked when I heard it was not going to be played this year to resume the games after COVID.

As a student at ECI in the late 50's and early 60's, I was a part of us always beating Weyburn. This continued at university through having friends playing for ECI.

Then I had to change allegiance when I started my 50-year career at WCI/WCS. The TRADITION which started in the 1930's, continued through World War Two, was unbroken until the mid-70's when the competition became too intense and we took three years off, but together the two schools started up again.

This competition was dominated by Estevan for the first 40 years and lately Weyburn recovered, and I think the series is pretty even.

When I was coaching, winning this was more important than provincials for many of the players. This series was top priority for scheduling and I hope that the powers to be reconsider this poor decision to not hold this prestigious tradition.
