Mercury hires new sports reporter

How does a guy from small-town Prince Edward Island wind up in a booming oil town on the Prairies, just a stone's throw from the American border? If you believe in a dream, you can follow it anywhere.

How does a guy from small-town Prince Edward Island wind up in a booming oil town on the Prairies, just a stone's throw from the American border?

If you believe in a dream, you can follow it anywhere.

My name is Josh Lewis and I'm excited to join the Mercury as their newest sports reporter and look forward to the challenge of covering the wide world of sports in Estevan and the surrounding area.

I come to the city from a P.E.I. village named Crapaud, by way of Kindersley, where I spent the past two-plus years in my first full-time sports writing gig.

Saskatchewan was a shock in some ways - I learned the hard way to avoid metal coat racks in the winter - but it was also a welcome mat in that the people are laid-back and they have learned to battle adversity like no other.

As for me, it seems the powers that be decided to make me lousy on the ice, on the field and on the court in exchange for letting me watch sports for a living.

That said, I'm looking forward to throwing a few double raises at the Estevan Curling Club, shooting some triple-bogeys at Woodlawn and maybe squeezing in a little shinny and slow pitch action.

If you are in any way involved with the Estevan sports scene, please contact me with your results, upcoming events and any other information. Your submissions help us print a better product.
