More or Less: First impressions of a Riders game

When you live in the heart of Rider Nation, it’s hard not to follow the green and white.

Going to a Rider game sounded like a fun thing to do with a friend.

WEYBURN - I’ve never been one to follow sports, but they have always been in my periphery.

My brother played on high school teams, and my Dad was an avid Hockey Night in Canada fan. Cheering for my school’s teams was a big part of my teen years.

My knowledge of any organized sport is limited at best. My interest is about the same.

But when you live in the heart of Rider Nation, it’s hard not to follow the green and white.

Water cooler conversations, coffee row chats and social media posts focus on how our team is doing this year.

In order to engage in these conversations, I downloaded the Rider app. At least I’d know if we won or lost a game.

Going to a Rider game has never been on my bucket list, but it sounded like a fun thing to do with a friend, and I’m always up for a new adventure.

Huddled up with my blanket, I sat watching the game, listening to the colourful commentary coming from the gentleman behind us.

I tried to focus on the game, and understand what was going on, but the people around us were providing great entertainment and I’m easily distracted.

There was something happening on the sidelines ALL THE TIME. I missed half of the plays!

Although we didn’t win, it was a great experience. I think I may even have said “Next time we go…”.
