More or Less: Spring is here?

As I write this, the forecast is for more of the white stuff over the next week. Although it has been an inconvenience, I can hear the farmers cheering for the added moisture.

Even though the calendar says that spring is here, winter is not quite done with us yet.

WEYBURN - I have to admit it.  April fooled me.

The gorgeous weather we were experiencing a few weeks ago had me breaking out my sandals and heading outside without a coat or sweater.

I was sure that Spring was here!

Even with the announcement last week that we were in for the worst storm in decades, the blue skies and sunshine begged to differ.

Then the sky turned grey, a chill was in the air and the snow started to fly. It was thick and heavy and continuous.

Highways were closed, roads in the city impassable and school was cancelled.

As I write this, the forecast is for more of the white stuff over the next week. Although it has been an inconvenience, I can hear the farmers cheering for the added moisture.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who are working hard to clear our streets and parking lots.

Thank you to the mail carriers, paper carriers and courier/truck drivers for working through adverse weather conditions. To the city refuse and recycling workers, we appreciate you!

As the parent of a paper carrier, I’d also like to thank those who make sure their walks are shovelled and mailboxes are accessible. I know the mail carriers appreciate this as well.

Thank you to the neighbours who go the extra mile when shovelling and snow-blowing, and to those who make sure our seniors can get in and out of their homes.

The abundance of snow made the side streets difficult to navigate, especially for cars and vehicles low to the ground. If you pushed a stuck vehicle out of the snow this week - thank you, thank you, thank you.

Even though the calendar says that Spring is here, Winter is not quite done with us yet.

Stay safe this week and be sure to check in on your friends and neighbours!
