Albert Roberts
December 5, 1930 to December 21, 2017
Albert was born on the family farm less than a ½ mile East of the elevator in Lakeland, Manitoba.
He was the 5th of 6 children born to Frank and Kitty Roberts. Bert lived on the farm until 1948 when he made the move to the city. Not long after arriving in the city, he met his bride to be and on April 6, 1953 Bert and Marjorie Close were married in Winnipeg. Marge and Bert had six children, Blair, Kirk, Kerry, Scott, Debbie, and Penny. In 1968 the family made the big move to Weyburn, Saskatchewan so that all of their children could attend high school at Western Christian College. After completing his training as an automotive mechanic, Bert worked in the automotive industry for more than 30 years, both as a mechanic and a salesman. In his later years he thoroughly enjoyed his time as manager at Nickle Lake Regional Park. Retirement took Marge and Bert first to Dauphin, MB and then to Salmon Arm, BC. Marge died in the summer of 2007 after 54 years of marriage. After a couple years of significant loneliness, Bert married Cecile Hystad and moved to live with her in Vernon, BC. Just a few short years later, Bert was once again alone with the passing of Cecile. With the onset of Alzheimer’s, he returned to spend his last few years here in Weyburn SK. On December 21st, Bert died in the Weyburn Hospital after a 10-day battle with pneumonia.
Bert was predeceased by his parents, Frank Roberts & Katchen (Parry) Roberts; first wife, Marjorie Roberts; second wife, Cecile Hystad; grandson, Kori Roy Roberts; brother, Howard (Judy) Roberts; sisters, Elsie (Howard) Kneeshaw, Kay (Earl) Grier and Elaine Jacobs; sisters-in-law, Audrey Roberts and Penny Close and brothers-in-law, Jack Close & Philip Vance. Bert is survived by his children: Blair (Susan) Roberts of Pelican Narrows, SK; Kirk (Vivian) Roberts of Victoria, BC; Kerry (LaVonne) Roberts of Weyburn, SK; Scott (Cindi) Roberts of Williston, ND; Debbie Roberts Hodgson of Kelowna, BC; Penny (J.P.) Gauthier of Winnipeg, MB; 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; brother, John Roberts; brother & sister-in-law, Greg (Betty) Close; sister-in-law, Karen Close; brother-in-law, Lloyd Jacobs as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from Church of Christ, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with John Smith officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
