Frances Katona passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Caroline Wolbaum; husband, Peter Katona; son-in-law, Ken Stocker and siblings, Andy, Kay, Margaret, Adam, Joe, Peter, Winnie and Louie. Frances was born on February 23, 1923 at Glenavon, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm milking cows and walking to school. On June 8, 1945 Frances married Peter Katona and together they began their own farming career. Frances spent all of her life living in the Creelman district and eventually moving into Weyburn. In her leisure time Frances enjoyed gardening, dancing and playing cards. She also had a great affection for animals. Frances volunteered for many years at the Creelman Fair. She was also a member of the United Church in Creelman for many years. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lorraine Stocker (Albert Depape) of Stoughton, SK, Loretta (Allan) Bates of Esterhazy, SK, Leonard Katona (Anna Lipowiecki) of Weyburn, SK, Don (June) Katona of Regina, SK, Les Katona (Louise Ortman) of Creelman, SK; grandchildren: Robert (Terri) Stocker & their children, Dakota and Trey; Tim (Tina) Stocker & their children, Cody, Devin, Justin, Taylor and Everett; Debbie (Scott) Laidlaw and son, Ethan Flett; Philip (Amanda) Bates & their children, Madison, Kiara, Jenna, Brady and Korbin; Michelle (Mike) Devins & their children, Ashley and Kaleb; Shelby (Tanya) Sheepskin & their children, Isaiah, Jiroux, Tyson, Lexia, Kayden, Kali and Shaunteya; Jesse Prince, Curtis Prince, Samantha Prince, Jason Katona, Nicole Katona (Cameron Paul), Nicole Lewis (Brent Quinton), Charlie Lewis (Kristina Ness);sister, Bernice Mills of Weyburn, SK as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. The Memorial Service for Frances was held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Pastor Jody Pfeifer officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Donations in memory of Frances may be made to the Weyburn Special Care Home Activity Fund.
