Isabel Kernahan

1932~2018
Isabel Kernahan

sabel Kernahan passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Isabel was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Eva Demeter; son, Robert Kernahan; brother, Joseph Demeter and sister, Olga (Kalman) Kish. Isabel was born in the Bekevar District in Saskatchewan on February 5, 1932.The family moved to the Flinton District, to the place we know as the “Demeter farm”. Isabel attended School at Flinton and worked on the family farm. She also worked at the store in Handsworth for a while when she was in her late teens. In 1951 Isabel married Alex Kernahan and moved to their family farm near Handsworth. She spent most of her time doing the jobs of a small mixed farming operation, everything from working with cattle to shoveling grain. As well she raised three children, keeping house, cooking, canning and growing a garden. Isabel enjoyed visiting with family and friends, card games and curling at Handsworth. She enjoyed listening to music. Isabel loved all animals (except snakes and wasps) and especially loved watching and feeding the wild birds around the farm. She always had at least one Chickadee trained to take seeds from her hand or the top of her head. She was very much a home body person; however, she really enjoyed a trip to Calgary to visit her good friend Irma, along with a side trip into British Columbia for a couple days. She also enjoyed her trip out to Ontario for a family wedding, her first time on an airplane.  In 1998 Isabel moved to Weyburn and enjoyed retirement. Visiting with family, friends and neighbors. She still enjoyed curling but preferred watching the big games on television. She always had her favorite curlers but she also had a few ‘more famous’ Canadian curlers that she did not like. If they were playing, she made sure to let you know that she was cheering for the other team. In 2011 she moved to Parkway Lodge in Weyburn. Isabel enjoyed her later years comfortably with family visits and meeting her new neighbors. She enjoyed her time at Parkway Lodge and received excellent help from staff and management. Isabel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Donna Major of Weyburn, Saskatchewan; son, Michael (Jennifer) Kernahan of Handsworth, Saskatchewan; grandchildren; Tracey Salisbury (Don Glasser) and Terry (Virginia) Salisbury and their children; Dawn, Caiden and Caleb; great grandson, Kassidy Fisher; great grandson, Kelly (Kaitlynn) Kardash and their children Myles and Blake; sisters, Edith Piper and Dolores Doka as well as nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. The family of Isabel would like to thank the staff and management at Parkway Lodge for making her stay enjoyable as well as the staff at Fletcher Funeral Chapel for all their help.
