Submitted by S.Falconer, Southline Glentworth Curling Club held a funspiel on Dec. 30 to celebrate Provincial Curling Day in Saskatchewan along with the 10 year anniversary in the new rink.

Saskatchewan’s small business owners look forward to the New Year knowing they will have the highest income threshold in Canada. Also individual taxpayers will see the benefits of a full year of the lower Personal Income Tax rates.

More people will continue to call Saskatchewan home. According to the latest figures released recently by Statistics Canada, as of October 1, 2017 the province’s population has grown to 1,168,057 or by 14,447 since October 1, 2016.

Most of us, from time to time, need to get away from it all to renew our spirit and find the inner peace we require.

While it won’t come as much of a surprise to those who lived it, but just for the record officially 2017 will be known as the driest year on record in Assiniboia and Moose Jaw.

Isabelle O’Connor will mark her 100th birthday in a couple of days. A birthday celebration for the Assiniboia woman will be held at the Catholic Church Hall on Saturday, January 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) will issue approximately 60 cannabis retail permits to private operators in as many as 40 Saskatchewan municipalities and First Nation communities.

Submitted by S. Falconer, Southline Fir Mountain Ladies Auxiliary presented a ‘Tribute to Elvis’ Concert featuring Rory Allen on December 1. Mark Jalbert was the capable Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

The Co-operators donated $5,000 to the Assiniboia Festival of Trees.
