Canadians officially celebrated 150 years of Confederation on July 1. This was an important date to mark because creating a national narrative is essential to nation-building.

Assiniboia Composite High School student Logan Fettes is off to the national youth track and field championship in Brandon on August 11-13.

A unique father-daughter art exhibit opens during the week of the Assiniboia Artist Retreat at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia.

T his past week we’ve seen yet another Saskatchewan agricultural company add value to their product before it leaves the province.

The Shurniak Art Gallery presents a beautiful and thought-provoking Canada 150 exhibit for the month of July and August. The exhibit depicts this southwest part of the province from 1867 to the present with agriculture as the dominant theme.

The Broken Arrow Youth Ranch held a golf tournament and pig roast at the Willow Bunch golf course on June 17. The fun event was a fundraiser for the ranch.

The Old Wives Lake Watershed Association and Nature Saskatchewan teamed up for a bird count at Old Wives Lake and surrounding area on June 21. The bird count takes place twice a year in spring and fall.

The Grade 9 to 12 students made an eventful class trip to Banff from June 8 to 11 accompanied by Mr. Ficzel, Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Blair. They had a quick road trip to the national park and set up their tents right before the rain began to pour.

Staff members of the RBC branch in Assiniboia participated in the bankصs Days of Service program by assisting the Assiniboia Royal Canadian Legion Branch No‭. ‬17‭ ‬on June 5‭.

Mankota School held its Awards Day on June 23. A number of awards were presented to deserving students. Students with high academic achievements were acknowledged.
