After a year with no snow in 2016, a total of 522 riders were ready to enjoy the 24 th annual Arcola Optimist Snowmobile Rally. The event was held on Saturday, Jan. 28, where snowmobile enthusiasts came together to enjoy the trails of the southeast.

Arcola School recently hosted Curling Canada's “Rocks & Rings.” This uniquely Canadian program has introduced over one million students to the game of curling-and on Wednesday, Jan.

The Carlyle RCMP detachment responded to 73 calls between Friday, Jan. 20 and Friday, Jan. 27. 911 calls All three 911 calls received during this period were of a non-emergency nature. False alarms A false alarm originated from Redvers.

A public alert was issued in Redvers regarding a rabies positive skunk captured in the Town of Redvers on Thursday, Jan. 19. The public alert states that the “rabid skunk may had been in interaction with people or animals.

The Carlyle detachment of the RCMP responded to a variety of calls between Friday, Jan. 13, and Thursday, Jan. 19. The RCMP would like assistance in locating the individuals who have been operating their snowmobiles on the golf course.

Yesterday I attended the funeral of a woman from our community. Although I did not know her personally, some of her children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren are friends.

Most readers are familiar with Exodus 3: 3 where Moses sees the burning bush and God speaks to him. Strangely, the bush was not being consumed and Moses realized something was up. Pun intended.

Alyce was born, at home, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan on August 15, 1927. She passed away at the Moose Mountain Lodge in Carlyle on January 17, 2017. She was the second youngest of eleven children born to Adolf and Olga Eckert.
