Towns and villages will have elections

Voters in numerous southeast towns and villages will be heading to the polls to elect a new mayor or councillors during the Oct. 26 civic election.

Voters in numerous southeast towns and villages will be heading to the polls to elect a new mayor or councillors during the Oct. 26 civic election.

Perhaps the most intriguing race is in Macoun, where two people are running for mayor and nine people are running for councillor in the small village. Grant Dube, who was a councillor this past term, is running for mayor, as is newcomer Glenys Baerg.

The candidates for councillor are incumbents Nick Benoit, Wade Cox and Kelly Foord, and newcomers Josiah Anderson, Dale Hillier, Dustin Fisher, Juergen Hauck, Dallas Weinrauch and Tyler Carter.

There will be an election for mayor in Alameda, where incumbent Mike Warner has been challenged by Wade Duncan. A second call for nominations as been issued for councillor, though, as only five nomination forms were received.

Incumbents Ken Best, Bath Demchuk and Tim Frietag will be joined by newcomers Jennifer Cobham and Doug Walls. The deadline to file papers is Oct. 5.

In Alida, incumbent mayor James Boettcher has been elected by acclamation. Six candidates are running for four councillor seats: incumbents Tim Cowan, Marvin Ferriss and Sheri Patton are being challenged by Justin Boettcher, Justin McNish and Dean Ramsey.

Two people are running for mayor in Arcola: Keith Erick and Heidi Stouffer. Neither is currently on council. Eight are running for councillor: incumbents Colin Brownridge, Elaine Hislop and Matt Wheeler, and newcomers Marius Wotta, Delaine Kendal, Cindy Kolenz, Scott Tessier and Barbie Wall.

Two people are up for mayor in Carievale, as newcomer Eric Hoefer has challenged incumbent Michael Wolf. There are five candidates for four councillor spots: incumbents Lianne Albrecht-Mallo and Coby Murray, and newcomers Melinda Carpenter, Riley Scott Carpenter and George Kerr.

Wayne Orsted has been acclaimed to another term as mayor in Carlyle. Running for councillor are incumbents John Brownlee, Dean Hoffman, Darcy Moore, Brian Romaniuk, Jennifer Sedor and Martin Tourand, and challengers Stephen Boyko, Devin Faber and Hugh Hislop,

Also acclaimed is Ross Apperley as the mayor in Carnduff. But there are 10 candidates for councillor: incumbents Roy Annetts, Joan Barber, Kevin Lesy and Verdeen Matthewson, along with hopefuls Harvey Bergen, Chris Boardman, Kris Carley, Joel Purves, Deborah Tollifson and Greg Wall.

Gainsborough Mayor Victor Huish has been challenged by Kayla Inglis. Incumbent councillors Roger Galon, Roger Kirby, Cathy Murray and Gerry Reynolds were acclaimed to the posts for another term.

Glen Ewen is one of the few communities that won’t need an election. Glen Lewis will spend another term as mayor, while incumbents Blair Hanna and Ryan Folkerts will remain the councillors.

Kenosee Lake also won’t have an election. Mark Doty, who was a councillor this term, has been acclaimed as the resort village’s new mayor. Incumbent councillor Paul Kapell will be joined by newcomers Ralph Gilliss, Edward Plumb and Velda Weatherald.

Kalvin Nankivell has been acclaimed as mayor in Kisbey for another term. But there are seven people seeking four seats as councillors, as incumbents Bob Curtis, Jim Johnston, John Voutour and Deb Wallace have been challenged by Grant Bueckert, Don Foy and Elisa Jackson.

Three people are running for mayor in Manor, as incumbent Vickie Akins has been challenged by councillor Lucille Dunn and newcomer Don Dionne. As for the councillor posts, incumbent Paul Corkish will be joined by newcomers Robert Kozak, Dan Peebles and Craig Savill.

Robert Goodward, who was a councillor in the current term, has been acclaimed as the mayor of Oxbow. The candidates for councillor are incumbents Mark Barnes, Rosemary Ching and Darrell Dunnigan, and newcomers Richard Lamontagne, Cory Mercer, Wendel Nordin, Douglas Pierce and Nicholas Shier.

Redvers will not need an election. Garry Jensen will move up from the councillor role to be the mayor. Incumbent councillors Owen Gavelin, Aaron Sorenson, Marc George and Terry Nixon will be joined by newcomers Ryan Toms and Brad Buldouck.

In Roche Percee current councillor Clayton Stenhouse is trying to move up to mayor, but has been challenged by Sam Dzuba., Dennis Fichter, Reg Jahn, Wes Neff and Charelotte Wrigley are vying for two councillor seats.

Stoughton has two candidates for mayor: incumbent Bill Knous and challenger Tom Sangster, who was a councillor.

A second call for nominations has been received for councillor. Incumbents Pat Shiels and Chelsea Schindel filed their papers, as did newcomers Colleen Andris, Rob Andris and Stephan Clark.
