Diezel Raynard wins Dirt Wars in Estevan

Raynard won both hobby stock features to take top spot in a competition named for his brother Riley.

ESTEVAN — Diezel Raynard swept the Riley Raynard'S Dirt Wars weekend doubleheader at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Raynard won two feature races in the hobby stock class at the track July 20. The first feature was supposed to be held July 19, but was pushed back a night due to rain. The speedway managed to get the race in, along with a full slate of races, on July 20 before more rain hit.

Diezel Raynard finished the weekend with the maximum of 80 points, three ahead of Kaiden Tuchscherer, who was second in the first feature July 20, followed by Kyler Satran and Ty Saxon. Tyson Grinstead was second, Tuchscherer was third and Brody Singleton was fourth in the second feature.

It's the latest accolade for Raynard this season. He won the hobby stock division in the six-day, six-race Tougher than Dirt Tour back in June. And it's his second straight year winning Dirt Wars.

Dirt Wars is a special for hobby stock drivers each year. It is named in honour of Raynard's brother Riley, who raced at the Estevan Motor Speedway for a decade despite being diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

All five divisions raced at the track during the weekend.

The track was able to squeeze in the other four features before the rain hit July 19. Keenan Glasser was the winner in the sport modified class, finishing ahead of Dustyn Mayer, Gabriel Deschamp and Leevi Runge.

Connor Hanson picked up his first Estevan feature win in the stock car division; he moved up to the class after winning the hobby stock title last year. Kyle Scholpp was second, Chase Davidson was third and Brennor Grinstead came in fourth.

Hudson Mann was the winner in the slingshot division. Dane Skjerdal was second, Acelyn Pfeifer was third and Gunner Raynard was fourth.

Aaron Turnbull won the modified feature ahead of Les McLenehan, Dexter Saxon and Steven Pfeifer. The race was called with eight laps remaining due to the rain.

During the July 20 program, Mayer won the sport mod feature, finishing ahead of Glasser, Leevi Runge and Landon Runge. It was Mayer's first Estevan feature win in the division.

Chris Hortness captured the feature in the stock car class. Scholpp was second, Deschamp came third and Davidson was fourth.

For the second straight night, Mann won the feature in the slingshot class, followed by Eli Turnbull, Landen Hallgren and Grayson Jewell.

Steven Pfeifer was the modified feature winner, with Dexter Saxon in second, Aaron Turnbull in third and Bland Bohannon in fourth.

The leaders in the points races are:  Diezel Raynard in the hobby stocks with 196 points; Aaron Turnbull in the modifieds with 231, Scholpp in the stock cars with 230 points; Leevi Runge in sport modifieds with 190; and Hudson Mann in slingshots with 197.

The July 19 program featured a tribute to the late Richard Mann, who was a long-time racer and volunteer. July 20's program was kids' night at the track.

The next program at the speedway will be Aug. 9 at 7 p.m., with a visit from the Western Renegade Sprint Cars to go with racing from all five classes.
