Estevan military historian earns a medal, presents a coin

Capt. Craig Bird was recently recognized by the province's lieutenant-governor.

REGINA — Capt. Craig Bird was part of two medal presentations Aug. 21.

Bird, who is the founder of the South East Military Museum, received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from Lt.-Gov. Bernadette McIntyre.

According to the Facebook page for the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Saskatchewan, McIntyre presented the medal to Bird in her receiving room at Government House in Regina. During the presentation, she read a citation listing some of Bird’s contributions.

“Captain Craig Bird has consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment to the Canadian Armed Forces and veterans, with dedicated service to the Canadian Cadet Organization, the South East Military Museum and the Royal Canadian Legion, especially Estevan branch No. 60,” the citation said.

Bird in turn presented the lieutenant-governor with a challenge coin from the South East Military Museum. McIntyre is the museum’s honourary patron.
