OXBOW — Music lovers will have lots of reasons to be excited during the Bow Valley Jamboree Aug. 9.

Seven different acts are on the bill for the music festival at the Bow Valley Park south of Oxbow. Gates will open at noon and the festival will start with Kilted Wind, a bagpipe band from Estevan, playing their bagpipe music at 1:10 p.m.

Kilted Wind members learned to play the bagpipes while in army cadets and later came together to form the band. They have performed at festivals and parades in the southeast and with the Regina City Police Band.

Another southeast favourite, The Ugly Strippers, will begin at 1:30 p.m. The group has been around since 2023 and consists of five members: Corey Hill (vocals), Quince Boutin and Erin Brown (guitar), Sean Brown (bass) and Jason Junk (drums). It's a cover band playing music ranging from the 1970s right up until modern times.

Oscar’s Hollow, a Saskatoon-based rock band, will perform at 2:55 p.m.

"They create rock and roll, characterized by a rich blend of heartfelt storytelling and melodic instrumentation," states a bio on the jamboree website. "The band’s sound balances raw authenticity with polished arrangements exploring themes of love, loss and self-discovery. They are often compared to bands like The Band, Nathaniel Rateliff and Wilco."

Having self-produced two EPs – Oscar’s Hollow (2018) and Now Playing (2019) – the band is in the studio recording a full-length album due out this year.

Southeast Saskatchewan musician Karissa Hoffart will perform at 4:10 p.m.

"Karissa’s passion for writing songs that inspire and motivate her audience is rooted from her past experiences that have led her to where she is today," states her bio. "Growing up on her family ranch in the Big Muddy of Saskatchewan gave her the strong work ethic and determination to make music her career."

Hoffart has 12 songs out on all digital streaming platforms with five official music videos on YouTube. Her music can be found on all digital streaming platforms. She is currently working on more music.

After another performance by Kilted Wind at 5:30 p.m., Tyler Del Pino and the Brasstronautz will make their jamboree debut at 6:05 p.m.

"Tyler Del Pino’s confidently pure vocals aren’t his only noteworthy talent: Del Pino has a pure passion for song writing and an honest sound infused with starry-eyed narratives," his bio states. "His music is a hybrid of alt-country, Americana and East Coast folk-rock that stays true to the roots of timeless tunes."

He is backed by his new band The Brasstronautz.

"Audiences will leave with earworms in their heads and hearts full of optimism. File him beside James Taylor for his classic song writing, Keith Urban for his polished precision, Mumford and Sons for their anthemic sing-alongs, and the Strumbellas for thoughtful themes and rosy melodies, born and bred in Canada."

Southeast Saskatchewan trio Ten Mile High will be another local act for this year; they perform at 7:35 p.m. The trio is known for their covers of '70s through '90s classic rock. By aligning their talents, singer/guitarist Aaron Folkerts, drummer Corey Widenmaier and bass guitarist/banjoist/singer Riley Horton are ready to entertain.

"Ten Mile High thanks everyone for all their continued support over the years, allowing them to do something they truly enjoy," their bio states.

The final group will be Snake Oil at 9 p.m. Their bio says a Snake Oil performance portrays all of the biggest “hair bands” that defined the late 1970s and 80s, all in their prime and all in one show.

"Experience these rock stars musically and visually, with spectacular costumes, hilarious and fun audience interaction and an array of 'incredible' special effects," says the bio.

"Witness the ultimate concert, including classic rock artists Kiss, Def Leppard, Heart, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Van Halen, Lita Ford, Ozzy Osbourne, Pat Benatar, AC/DC, Vixen, Blondie and more."

The event will also feature vendors, food trucks, a beer garden and children's activities. Camping will be available at the park.

The jamboree is presented by the Oxbow Arts & Cultural Committee.
